The overall aim of the course is to enhance participants’ understanding of the principles of risk management with special emphasis on security and to build their skills relating to personal and team security management.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of understanding individual and team roles in the security environment of their operations.
  • Describe measures to reduce personal and team vulnerability to a range of threats against their security.
  • Build necessary skills so as to become confident of operating relevant equipment and procedures for enhanced security.

Course Outline:

  • International Context: Introduction outlining the global context of enhanced risk to humanitarian relief workers. What is happening and why the risks to our safety and security are increasing? Why do we need to understand security and safety? What happens if these issues are not addressed? In the context of the international or national laws, what is the status of a humanitarian relief worker and the need for all actors to understand the implications?
  • Threats, risks and vulnerabilities assessment including actor mapping.
  • Possible security strategies for risk management.
  • Management Approach to Security: Elements of Security Management Framework and threshold of acceptance.
  • Specific threat/security management Aspects: Security awareness, security assessment, travel security and safety, crowd and mobs, site security, cash security, kidnapping and hostage taking, action under fire, first aid and resuscitation, handling anger/harassment and general tips on survival in insecure environments.
  • Gender & Sexual Violence: The impact of team composition on negotiation and security. Issues of sexual violence, vulnerability, strategies for protection and operating procedures.
  • Culture & Environmental Aspects: Recognize the impact of cultural knowledge and the risks. Identifying how personal behavior impacts on risk.
  • Information management and incidence reporting.
  • Staff Management: To include personal, team and organizational dimensions, aggression, stress and conflict management. Practical Training: These would comprise of first aid, communication procedures and training on use of equipment, map reading, survival skills.

How to register:

The course is suitable for participants from a wide range of backgrounds including: Generalist humanitarian workers, Specialist professionals deployed (or seeking deployment) in a particular field of expertise (engineering, public health, child protection, logistics etc.), Emergency response or management specialists with some experience of a major transnational NGO or the UN, emergency desk staff of humanitarian organizations, and government officials working in emergencies zones.

Through Bala Vikasa People Development Training Center (PDTC), Bala Vikasa shares these approaches to Development professionals, bureaucrats, community leaders, activists and development students to replicate the learning’s back and create sustainable models back in their communities. Officials from 57 countries across the globe participated over last one decade into our training programs and experienced a change in their attitude and approach to development.

The field exposure visits inspire and build confidence among the participants. The reality situations make them feel connected, relevant and replicate in their ground back home to achieve sustainable results.

The core methodologies and development strategies used at Bala Vikasa at an individual, community and organisational level form a crucial base for the CDD training program.

The program cost is INR 40,000. Scholarships are available for eligible candidates from developing countries on first-come first-serve basis.

This course will provide the knowledge and skills to senior programme staff and other health professionals, to improve management of persons with tuberculosis (TB) and strengthen programmatic practices.

Target Audience: Specialists, medical and clinical officers, nurses, laboratory technicians, monitoring and evaluation officers, TB and HIV/AIDS, and non-communicable diseases and tobacco control programme staff and health policy and decision makers, who are primarily from low- and middle-income countries.

Upon completion of this course the participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the bacteriological and epidemiological basis for the principles of effective TB patient care and programme management.

  2. Understand transmission of TB bacilli and pathogenesis of TB.

  3. Diagnose TB infection and disease.

  4. Treat and provide support to persons with TB exposure, infection and disease.

  5. Record, report, analyse and use data on TB case finding and treatment for decision making at all levels of health care.

  6. Describe the epidemiology of TB, drug-resistant TB and TB in at-risk populations, including persons living with HIV.

  7. Monitor and evaluate TB programme activities and provide support and supervision to providers working at different levels of health care.

  8. Work collaboratively with various health care programmes and providers to further strengthen quality patient care and programme management at the various levels and functions of the NTP

A four-day course covering principles and practical application of risk management, personal security, team security and safety issues. A must for all managers and professionals interested in humanitarian work and engaged with the Government, UN agencies, NGOs, Red Cross etc., With the current security environment, that is prevailing in the world, the contents of the course are relevant to a wide range of individuals, whether a part of the corporate sector or a citizen who is not necessarily performing a security related function.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Course Outline

RedR India’s Training of Trainers is very practical and the emphasis is firmly on learning from doing. Participants will learn through experience, observation and feedback. Sessions on adult learning, training design, methodology and evaluation will be immediately put into practice by participants through the designing and running of their own short training sessions. The course includes options to explore particular topics in more detail, and time is set aside to review other approaches to meeting learning needs. Participants will also develop plans for their own individual training project to be implemented after the course. They would be encouraged to team-up with fellow participants to develop, design and deliver training for future RedR India courses.

Seminar aimed to reorient education towards sustainability, which in turn had the potential to impact the way people think. For this reason it was important to look at ways in which one could effectively monitor progress and capture learning in the process of implementation. All interested are requested to submit their papers before October 2017 end. The Seminar will be held in the conference hall of Guru Nanak Auditorium, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The seminar will help to equip people with knowledge of and skills in sustainable development, making them more competent and confident while at the same time increasing their opportunities for leading healthy and productive lifestyles in harmony with nature and with concern for social values, gender equity and cultural diversity.

Added feature of the seminar is that to create awareness about valuable concept of sustainable development among the up growing generation, paper writing and presentation contest has been also planned . Students not exceeding 18 yrs of age and enrolled in any of the school/college of Punjab and Chandigarh can participate in the contest. Contest aimed to create awareness about sustainable nature among the up growing generation. This will help to reorient education towards sustainability, which in turn had the potential to impact the way people think. The word count of the paper should be between 3000 to 5000 words. Paper may contain figures/charts/Table etc. Last date of submitting the paper is September 30, 2017. Paper should be submitted through the Head of the school under Government registered/speed post only along with a token participating fee of Rs one hundred per paper. Head of the school will forward all the papers of his/her school along with token fee as a single demand draft in favour of The Director, G A D Institute of Development Studies payable at Amritsar. Best 15 paper writers will be invited to present their papers at the seminar in the last week of November 2017. Two Best papers will be selected from the 15 paper writers and presented at the seminar. Non presentation of the selected papers will amount to disqualification and have no claim to the award/participation. Certificate of participation will be awarded to all the participants. No award can be awarded depending upon the quality of the paper if the juries decide. There will be a Special Award for government school student’s paper writers. Best paper will be selected from the Five government school paper writers invited to present their papers at the seminar. Decision of the jury will be final and cannot be challenged. Institute will not be responsible for any postal delay.
